Episode summary:
A trigger hit out of nowhere during a medical appointment and it became a doorway to healing. In this episode, Jemese explores why knowing the problem isn’t always enough to create change. Many women are deeply self-aware and can identify unhealthy patterns, yet still feel stuck when triggers surface. Through a personal story, she shares how God revealed the deeper root behind a nervous system response she thought she had already healed from and how to actually heal triggers God’s way.
“When we are triggered, it’s actually an invitation.”
Jemese LaChel Drewery, LCSW
Your nervous system is designed to protect you, but sometimes it continues responding to old wounds long after the danger has passed. A trigger isn’t necessarily a sign that you’re broken or moving backward—it’s information. It can reveal an area where healing, renewal, and God’s truth are still being invited deeper into your heart.
Rather than responding to triggers with shame, consider approaching them with curiosity: What is my nervous system trying to tell me? What belief, memory, or wound is connected to this response? Healing begins when we stop fighting the signal and start exploring the source with God.
In This Episode:
- Why insight alone doesn’t always produce transformation
- The difference between coping with triggers and healing them
- How shame keeps many women stuck in the healing process
- Why triggers can be invitations from God rather than signs of failure
- The connection between renewing the mind and emotional healing
- How beliefs formed years ago can still impact present-day reactions
- Why PTSD and trauma diagnoses do not have to be life sentences
- The role of forgiveness in lasting freedom
The 4-Step TRIGGER To TRANSFORMATION Process for WOrking Through Triggers:
- Submit – Bring the trigger honestly before God.
- Trace – Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the root.
- Release – Forgive, surrender, and let go of what God identifies.
- Restore – Fill your mind with Scripture and truth.
Scripture Highlight:
Romans 12:2
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Takeaway:
Your trigger is not proof that you’ve failed. It may be an invitation from God to uncover a deeper layer of healing and freedom. Through surrender, truth, and the work of the Holy Spirit, transformation is possible.
Reflection Question:
What recurring trigger in your life might God be inviting you to explore with Him instead of avoiding?
